Format a line or arrow

Easily customize how lines look by changing color, thickness, style, angle, and arrow types.

Change the line color (option #1)

  1. Select the line by single-clicking on it
  2. Click on the line color box on the properties bar to open the color picker
  3. Select the color you want and it will recolor the line

Change the line color (option #2)

  1. Select the line by single-clicking on it
  2. Click on the Line color box within the Graphic panel in the Dock.
  3. Select the color you want and it will recolor the line

Change the line thickness

  1. Select the line by single-clicking on it
  2. Click on the arrows in the properties bar to change the line width
    or
  3. Click on the arrows in the Graphic panel to change the line width

Change the line style

  1. Select the line by single-clicking on it
  2. Click on one of the three styles available (solid, dashed, or dotted) in the properties bar
    or
  3. Click on one of the three styles available (solid, dashed, or dotted) in the Graphic panel

You can also create and apply custom themes with your preferred line style.

Change the line shape

  1. Select the line by single-clicking on it
  2. Click on one of the three angle types available (curved, elbow, direct) in the properties bar
  3. For customized line shapes, click "Edit Line Shapes" and drag the different points.

Change the arrow type

  1. Select the line by single-clicking on it
  2. Click on one of the arrow types (or 'None') for each side of the line

ERD & UML lines: add multiplicities, reverse line direction, line endings

  1. Select the line by single-clicking on it
  2. A pop-up context panel appears giving you two options: Add Multiplicities and Reverse line direction
  3. After selecting the line, go to the properties bar to change the line endings. You'll notice that certain shape libraries have additional line endings that are common for those shapes.

ERD & UML lines: change line style

  1. Access the UML or ERD shape libraries from the More Shapes menu. 
  2. Select the line by single-clicking on it
  3. Change the line to a double line by opening the 'Graphic' panel from the dock and selecting the double line icon. You can also see more line style options above.
