Collaborating with other users is at the heart of Lucidchart's software. Easily share files and folders with other Lucidchart users and collaborate in real-time.

Sharing inside the Editor

  1. Share the file using either the Share button or click Invite Collaborators under the Share tab in the Menu Bar.

  2. Enter the email address of each collaborator separated by a comma, or choose to generate a one-time or multi-use link that can be copied and emailed out. If on a team account, team members and pre-defined groups will auto-fill inside the invitation field.
  3. Invitations are sent through email with a link to the shared file. Collaborators will need to log in to their Lucidchart account or register for one in order to accept the file, which then appears in their Documents area.
  4. Another option for sharing is sending your collaborators an email via File > Email Collaborators, which will bring up the sharing window for you to select their email addresses and add a personal message.

Sharing inside the Documents page

  1. Select a file or folder you'd like to share.
  2. Click the '+' button under 'Sharing & Permissions' in the right column.
  3. Enter the email address of each collaborator separated by a comma, or choose to generate a one-time or multi-use link that can be copied and emailed out. If on a team account, team members and pre-defined groups will auto-fill inside the invitation field.
  4. Invitations are sent through email with a link to the file. Collaborators will need to log in to their Lucidchart account or register for one in order to accept the file, which then appears in their documents area.
  5. When you share an entire folder, new files can be created inside the folder and automatically shared with your collaborators. You’ll need 'Can Edit' permissions to create new files inside the folder, and you need 'Owner' permissions to drag existing diagrams into the folder.

Managing collaborators

Collaboration is one of the core benefits of Lucidchart -- learn how to invite collaborators and set permissions for document collaborators.

  1. Click "Share" from the Menu bar and select "Invite Collaborator(s)" and a menu will appear, OR
  2. Click the "Share" button in the top right corner and a menu will appear.
  3. To share through email, simply enter the email address(es) of intended collaborators. Note: Team accounts have a drop down menu with all the team members and groups listed. Depending on your account level, you may be limited to the number of collaborators. Click here to see levels and limitations.
  4. Assign your collaborators a permission level. Owners are equal to you and have the same ability to share and determine permission for other users, an editor can modify the document but not invite others, a viewer can simply view the document and interact with any demos, and a commenter can view the document and leave comments.
  5. Once collaborators and permissions have been determined, click "Send Invitation".

By default, documents or folders that you create are private. You must actively share them with your team or other collaborators via a shared folder or via separate sharing permissions.
